Why are we conducting this study?
People on the autism spectrum often have difficulties with understanding complex facial expressions. To help support better understanding of these facial expressions, we are designing a game-like tablet app for autistic children and adolescents.
Who can participate?
Both non-autistic and autistic (level 1 or 2) children are invited to participate. Children will be screened for poor eyesight, epilepsy or epileptic episodes, severe head trauma with unconsciousness, social anxiety, intellectual disability (IQ < 70), and other neurological, psychological, or psychiatric disorders.
What will my child be required to do?
The study involves various assessments including characteristics associated with autism, social development. EEG and eye movement recordings will be made whilst your child looks at photos of objects and children showing different facial expressions (e.g., happy, angry, neutral). The study will take approximately 2 - 2.5 hours. You will be reimbursed for the travel expenses.
